Agile Delivery Manager
Company: Unified Healthcare Group
Aug 2014 - Oct 2015
Abstract:
Stephan was brought in to implement agile at this scale up company in vibrant Melbourne.
He took agile to the next level and implemented automated testing as part of delivery
Situation
UHG provides a healthcare platform to connect corporate organisations with healthcare providers.
Tasks
Stephan is the Hands-On Tech Lead for a team (13) of Developers, Business Analysts, Testers and UX to deliver the “Blue Wave” project to replace all UHGs core backbone systems.
Actions
Introduced practices like DevOps, IAAS/PAAS on AWS and Azure, TDD, BDD, formal code reviews, production data scrubbing, password and security key management, and more.
Successfully increased agility and business accountability for the success of the project by implementing agile practices such as 1) a fully estimated and prioritised backlog, 2) burn-up charts visible to all, 3) Showcases after every iteration.
Implemented a quarterly performance framework to manage his team, including fair distribution of training opportunities.
Brought the utilisation of IAAS/PAAS in scope for the project.
Migrated from release driven project, to continuously delivering functionality.
Feature Switches and a Staged Deployment Pipelines.
Results
The result was a smooth-running DevOps team where increasingly more value is being delivered per iteration than originally estimated. Interestingly, several people in the team were about to leave the organisation (including the top performer of the team) when Stephan joined and decided to stay stating Stephan’s direction and leadership as their most important reason.
